Snowy, Hilly Winter Walk at Clayton Park in Imlaystown, NJ

Sunday morning brought one of those crisp winter walks that feels earned.

My wife and I headed to Clayton Park in Imlaystown for a snowy morning walk. It was about 28 degrees, but with no wind at all, it turned out to be a really enjoyable outing — especially since we were dressed for it.

One important thing to know about Clayton Park: this is not a flat park. The trails are very hilly, with steady climbs and descents that make it better suited for hikers and trail users than casual walkers. Even with snow on the ground, the elevation changes were noticeable and kept the walk interesting.

The park was quiet, but not empty. We passed a few mountain bikers navigating the trails and only a couple of other walkers, which added to the calm, off-the-beaten-path feel. The snow softened the sounds around us, and the hills made us slow down and really take in the surroundings.

This wasn’t a leisurely stroll — it was more of a purposeful winter walk. The kind where you feel it in your legs a bit, breathe deeper on the climbs, and feel accomplished when you loop back to the car.

If you’re looking for an easy, casual walk, Clayton Park probably isn’t the best fit. But if you enjoy hilly terrain, quieter trails, and a little challenge, it’s a great spot — especially on a still winter morning when the cold keeps the crowds away.

Walk highlights:

  • ❄️ Snow-covered, peaceful trails
  • ⛰️ Very hilly terrain (not flat)
  • 🚵 A few mountain bikers, very few walkers
  • 🧤 Cold temps but calm, wind-free conditions
  • ☕ Well earned warm-up afterward

A solid reminder that winter walks don’t have to be easy to be enjoyable — sometimes a little elevation makes the experience even better.
